Cape Explorer
Are you a time poor traveller who wants to experience the very best Cape York has to offer? Then follow us on our Cape Explorer Tag Along tour as we venture to the very best of Cape York.
About
Departing and concluding in Cairns, we venture north up Captain Cook Hi-way into the ancient Rainforest of the Daintree before sinking our teeth into the infamous CREB Track! Rest assured we’ll show you all the CREB’s hidden gems. (pending seasonal openings)
Passing by the Lions Den Hotel we’ll carry onto Cooktown. With Musgrave in our sights we’ll travel through Lakefield National Park exploring Battle Camp Road, ‘The Laura’s’ and a few secret Barra Honey holes along the way! Once we reach the Peninsular Development Road (PDR), we’ll turn our tyres north and pass through Coen. Leaving Coen via the PDR, it’s not long until we head west for Weipa. Whilst in Weipa we engage in a mine tour and/or fishing charter/eco cruise - both a must do when visiting the western side of the Cape!
We set off from Weipa with the Old Tele Track (OTT) in our sights! Arriving at Bramwell Junction we re-lock the hubs, engage 4x4 and hit the Tele! Known for its pristine swimming holes and epic 4x4ing the OTT is our trip favourite! It takes us all the way north to the Jardine River crossing - where we board the ferry for the short crossing.
Now we’re in the True North! Only a stone's throw from the Australian Mainland's Northernmost point - Cape York! We venture to Punsand Bay, exploring Bamaga and Seisia along the way! Now it's Cape time! We drive the dense rainforest track from Punsand Bay to the Tip of Australia! We then return south and spend a night at Loyalty Beach while watching the sun set over the Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria. The following day we embark on a journey to Thursday Island where we immerse ourselves in its rich island culture as we tour the island with a local guide.
Whilst we’re north of the Jardine we explore the 5 beaches and Somerset region!
It’s time to point our 4x4s south and make our way back across the Jardine Crossing! No need for any disappointment! Plenty of adventure still awaits!
Travelling south we call back into our favourite Old Tele swim spots - Fruit Bat and Twin/Elliot Falls! Continuing on we have the Frenchman’s track in our sights! We drive this infamous track east and carry onto Portland Roads, Chile Beach and Lockhart River. Observing wartime history is the flavour around these parts. Following Portland Road we merge back onto the PDR and make tracks for the Palmer River Gold Fields where we will explore relics from yesteryear.
Traversing the rocky roads of Old Coach Road we explore the Maytown ruins and its rich mining history. Our Cape Explorer Tag Along concludes in Chillagoe, where we explore the natural wonders of the Chillagoe caves!
