Koping In The Cape

Leave the big smoke in our wake as we tackle Cape York’s most epic destinations! Tag Along on a Koping In The Cape tour and drive all the best tracks! Fish for Barra! Swim in pristine waterways! And kick back Cape style! This is a once in a life time Cape York experience!

About

Departing from Cairns, we venture north up Captain Cook Hi-way into the ancient Daintree Rainforest before sinking our teeth into the infamous CREB Track (pending seasonal openings)! Rest assured we’ll show you all the CREB’s hidden gems. Passing by the Lions Den we’ll carry onto Cooktown.

From here the adventure really begins! Pointing it north we make tracks for Coen, travelling through the Starke Track, Cape Flattery* and Lakefield National Park along the way. Now we go remote! Following the unmaintained Running Creek Track through to Coen.

We mosey along the Peninsular Development Road (PDR) from Coen, but it’s not long until we turn west for Weipa. Whilst in Weipa we engage in a mine tour and fishing charter (and/or eco cruise) - both a must do when visiting the western side of the Cape!

We set off from Weipa with the Old Tele Track (OTT) in our sights! Arriving at Bramwell Junction we re-lock the hubs, engage 4x4 and hit the Tele!  Known for its pristine swimming holes and epic 4x4ing the OTT is our trip favourite! It takes us all the way north to the Jardine River crossing - where we board the ferry for the short crossing!

Now we’re in the True North! Only a stone's throw from the Australian mainland's northernmost point - Cape York! We venture to Punsand Bay, exploring Bamaga and Seisia along the way! Now it's Cape time! We drive the dense rainforest track from Punsand Bay to the Tip of Australia!  We then return south and spend a night at Loyalty Beach while watching the sun set over the Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria. The following day we embark on a journey to Thursday Island where we immerse ourselves in its rich island culture as we tour the island with a local guide.

Whilst we’re north of the Jardine we explore the 5 beaches and Somerset region!

Its time to point our 4x4s south and make our way back across the Jardine Crossing! No need for any disappointment! We’ve only just reached the halfway point of our trip!

Travelling south we call back into our favourite Old Tele swim spots - Fruit Bat and Twin/Elliot Falls! Continuing on we have the Frenchman’s Track in our sights! We drive this infamous track east and carry onto Portland Roads, Chile Beach and Lockhart River. Observing wartime history is the flavour around these parts. Following Portland Road we merge back onto the PDR and make tracks for the Palmer River Gold Fields where we will explore relics from yesteryear.

Traversing the rocky roads of Old Coach Road we explore the Maytown ruins and its rich mining history. Our Koping In The Cape tag along concludes in Chillagoe, where we explore natural wonders that are the Chillagoe caves!
